The Pink City of Jaipur was not as ‘pink’ as the name suggested, but a mellow terracotta pink which made the buildings look particularly photogenic on a warm January morning. Considering that the buildings were so painted in 1876 in honour of Prince Albert’s visit, they are remarkably well preserved ….
None more so than Hawa Mahal, a former palace, with its 953 ornate windows from which women of the royal household in the bygone days observed daily life in the city
The colour of the buildings in the city may be warm but the traffic in and out of the city was definitely NOT welcoming! You had to take your life in your hands just to cross the road!
But maybe that’s part of the charm of the city, as these snake-charmers were!
