Málaga in May

Málaga, Spain

Málaga for 2 half days

We said goodbye to Seville and took the 11.00 train for Málaga for our flight back to London the next day. We arrived just after 13.30 and took a taxi to our hotel to stay for 1 night. It cost €22

Where we stayed in Málaga – Petite Palace Plaza Málaga

The hotel’s right in the middle of the old town centre next to the cathedral and just a hop and a skip from the pedestrianised shopping area.  It’s really lovely, especially the staff at reception. Our room on the top (fifth) floor was spacious and quiet.

Just a few steps outside the hotel the square and  Málaga cathedral beckoned

We noticed on our arrival that there was a stage at the  square. When we went out for dinner in the evening the show had just started. The colourful display of  flamenco dancers was the warm-up for a fashion show.

The purple Jacaranda and pink bougainvillea trees could be seen everywhere

The Roman theatre and Alacázaba.

It was free to get in the Roman theatre bit but €2.20 to get to the Alacázaba, but it was well worth it for all the photo opportunities 📸

And there’s a pretty garden too!

The morning after

The stage and any debris of the night before had been removed by the time we went out for breakfast in a little café near the hotel the next morning. The square looked very inviting in the brilliant morning sunshine and we were able to make the most of it doing a bit of shopping before our flight home in the afternoon.

I have to confess that Málaga turned out to be far better than the Costa del Sol image that I had previously associated with the city. It’s probably because we were far from the “high-rise hotels and resorts jutting up from yellow-sand beaches” for which it is famous (infamous??).
