When my partner and I accompanied my sister and her husband to Vienna, we decided to take in another city for a couple of nights. It was a toss-up between Český Krumlov and Bratislava. We decided on the former and were delighted with the choice. It’s beautiful in October!
Public transport between Vienna and Český Krumlov
When research showed that it would take over 6 hours to go by train, with various changes, the shared shuttle in a people’s carrier at 2 and half hours seemed the only viable option. It was cheaper too, though it was not a consideration given the time we would have saved.
We picked up the shuttle near Vienna’s central station, about 2 hours later than the appointed time (because of some emergency, we were told). It was cold staying around waiting, as we did not dare leave the pick-up point for a coffee somewhere just in case the bus turned up in our absence. In the end the journey took just over 2 hours as the driver was driving fast (much too fast) to make up for lost time (though we were refunded half the price).
Pension Zámecká Apartmá – Castle Apartments
For our 2 nights’ stay at Český Krumlov we chose Pension Zámecká Apartmá. The location of the apartment was excellent, being just opposite the castle. It was on the main street but surprisingly quiet. For the inclusive breakfast we went to the the small restaurant next the the office. It was great value for money
Český Krumlov
Český Krumlov is dominated by 2 towers: St Vitus Church Tower and the Castle Tower.

Along Vltava River
The walk along the river is a photographer’s dream! It’s so picturesque at every turn. Just point the camera anywhere and a postcard picture emerges! The challenge for me was to stop!
On a sunny day it’s vibrant and mesmerising
At dusk, it’s moody and alluring
