One of the reasons that my friend and I chose to stay in Lyon for a few days in early May 2018 was that we could take a train from there to visit Annecy.
We were so lucky that the day for the trip was the finest and sunniest of our stay in the area!
Beautiful as it is, Annecy would have been wasted under a leaden sky!
It is about 145 km from Lyon and took 2 hours on the train from Lyon Part-Dieu station. It’s not really worth driving there as it would have taken about the same time to drive, plus more to find a parking space!
Annecy station was much bigger than the provincial station than I imagined. Then I found that Annecy is in fact a main hub in the Rhone-Alps region of France
It was not far to walk from the station to get to the hub of things (Just follow the sign for the quay)
From then on photos rather than words explain why it’s so popular with tourists!
