Day trip to Córdoba from Seville
From our new base in Seville my friend and I continued our tour of southern Spain.
To catch the 9.20 train to Córdoba we took a taxi to the station rather than wait for a bus. By the time we got there just after 9.00 it was touch and go whether we could catch that train.
Luckily there were no queues at the ticket office and we managed to get on the train which was already at the station (bound for Málaga as the final stop). The journey took just over 45 minutes.
As the hop on hop off bus worked so well for us in Seville, we went straight to the Tourist Information desk for the similar tickets on arrival. There was a stop (No.8) right outside.
Knowing that we had just over 7 hours in the city we decided in advance what we wanted to see so as not to overdo it. We opted to stay on the bus right until the last stop in the historic centre.
So started my photography journey in Córdoba! 📸
La Puerta del Puente de Córdoba
This was also the starting point of the inclusive tour in a small bus (just inside the entrance) that weaved through the narrow streets. 
There were many statues all over Córdoba, but this little fellow caught my eyes! 📷

Roman Bridge – iconic and distinctive from every angle
Calahorra Tower – at the end of the Roman Bridge.
Across the bridge there’s a small tower which cost only €1 to get in. It’s not very high but afforded a good view of the bridge and the surrounding area.
Mosque-Cathedral Córdoba
It’s a fascinating mix of Muslim and Catholic heritage. It would have been nice to see the interiors. However it was getting towards noon and the queue seemed endless. So we just had lunch and spent some time in the shade in the peace and quiet of the garden
Palacio de la Merced
This historical building was once home to the convent of La Merced Calzada, where Christopher Columbus once stayed. It is now home to the Provincial Government of Córdoba
Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos
We had to wait until 14.30 for it to open but it was worth the wait!
It was beautifully preserved inside with well laid out and colourful gardens and high grounds for photos. The gardens at the back of the palace was so colourful and my camera battery soon went out!
It was much less crowded then elsewhere in the historic old town. We stayed for about 2 and half hours, leaving just enough time to catch our 18.14 train back to Seville ! It was definitely the highlight of my visit to Córdoba

Lessons learned🤔
1. Hop on hop off bus – as we only used it to go from the train station to the historic centre, with hindsight we didn’t need it at all! A return trip from the station by bus or even taxi would have been cheaper. Once there, everything was within walking distance!
2. Buy train tickets in advance – it would have saved a lot of panicking before starting the trip!
