Off to Seville from Granada
My friend and I continued our tour of southern Spain. We took the 11.19 train to Seville and arrived just before 14.45. We were very impressed with the clean and comfortable train
Where we stayed in Seville – Silken Al-Andalus Palace
I chose this hotel for our 4 nights’ stay because it was great value for money for a 4* hotel. It’s outside the city centre but there’s a bus stop just 100 metres from the hotel for the bus to town (as we found out later).
The hotel looked really grand, spacious and airy. We loved the setting of the tapas restaurant in the hotel and had dinner there every night. After a day’s sight-seeing it was a great place to have a nice meal and relax with a glass of wine. The service there was excellent
Seville for a day
I had been to Seville on a day trip from Tavira (Portugal) some years ago. My partner and I had wasted a lot of our few hours there walking from one place to the next. So this time round my friend and I bought a hop-on hop-off city tour ticket at the hotel reception on arrival.
We decided in advance what we wanted to see and the stop to get off. I reckon that it’s the best way to see the major sights in Seville.
We took the bus to town to pick up the tour at Paseo de Colón early next morning for a full day in Seville. The first thing that caught my eyes was Torre del Oro
Plaza de España
This was the first stop of the hop on hop off tour. On that sunny morning under a bright blue sky and with relatively few people around it was more breathtakingly beautiful than I remembered!
It’s easily one of the most spectacular squares I have seen! We stayed 2 hours there without realising it!
Plaza de America
Had we been there first its beautiful setting and garden would have left us open-mouthed in amazement. However after the splendour of Plaza de España the “wow” factor here diminished somewhat. It was still not to be missed!
The building in Plaza de America is Museum of Popular Arts and Customs. As EU citizens we went in free.
By this time we were glad to be out of the baking hot sun for a bit of culture and somewhere to sit down for our packed lunch.
Plaza de Cuba
We caught up with the tour bus to go to Plaza de Cuba on the other side of the river. There was not much to see there except for eateries lining the river bank. We found a café right by the river for a break and a much needed cold drink while watching the world went by on the river!
Seville Cathedral
We stayed for an hour before getting the tour bus back to the first stop which was near to Seville Cathedral and Reales Alcázares. There were long queues for both so we contented ourselves with just taking photos before catching the bus back to the hotel
Got the fridge magnet – and the photos
